Why is my GIF so large?

GIF is an old format that compresses poorly. A smaller width, 10 frames per second or a shorter moment make the file much smaller.

How long can a GIF be?

Up to 30 seconds. Longer GIFs get too large to share; a video file is the better choice then.

Does the GIF have sound?

No. GIF is an image format, so the sound is left out. To keep the sound, cut the video instead.

Which videos can I turn into a GIF?

Any video that plays on this page, which covers most MP4, MOV and WebM files. If yours doesn’t play, try another browser, or compress it here first to get an MP4.

Can I make a GIF on my phone?

Yes. Pick a video from your photo library, choose the moment and save the GIF. If your phone can’t do the work, our server does it.

Is my video uploaded?

Not when your browser can do the work: then the video never leaves your device. Otherwise it goes to our server over an encrypted connection and is deleted 2 hours later.

Is it free?
