Why use this video cropper

  • A shape for every platform

Square, 9:16, 16:9 and 4:5 are one tap away, or keep the video’s own shape and zoom in.

  • No stretching or scaling

The part you keep stays at its own size, so the picture is never stretched or blown up.

  • Done on your device

When your browser can handle the video, the work happens right there and the video never leaves your device.

  • No watermark, no sign-up

Nothing is added to the result, and there’s no account or email address to give.

Ways to use the video cropper

  • Vertical video for TikTok and Reels

Turn a widescreen video into 9:16 so it fills a phone screen.

  • Square posts for feeds

Crop to 1:1 or 4:5 for Instagram and Facebook feeds.

  • Black bars removed

Cut off the bars around a video that was recorded or exported in the wrong shape.

  • The subject in focus

Leave out a messy background or a stranger at the edge of the frame.

Questions

Can’t find your answer? Write to feedback@videocompressor.xyz.

Which shape should I pick?

9:16 fills a phone screen (TikTok, Reels, Shorts), 1:1 and 4:5 suit feeds like Instagram, and 16:9 is the usual widescreen for YouTube and TVs.

Does cropping lower the quality?

The part you keep is encoded again at high quality and at its own size, with no scaling. The picture simply has fewer pixels because the edges are gone.

Does it work with videos filmed upright on a phone?

Yes. The frame follows the video as you see it, including phone videos that are stored sideways and marked as rotated.

Which video formats can I crop?

Any video that plays on this page, which covers most MP4, MOV and WebM files. If yours doesn’t play, try another browser, or compress it here first to get an MP4.

Can I crop a video on my phone?

Yes. Pick a video from your photo library, drag the frame and save the result. If your phone can’t do the work, our server does it.

Is my video uploaded?

Not when your browser can do the work: then the video never leaves your device. Otherwise it goes to our server over an encrypted connection and is deleted 2 hours later.

Is it free?

Yes. No account, no watermark, no email address. Videos that need our server can be up to 1 GB, 5 per day.
