Compress video for email

Gmail and Yahoo Mail allow 25 MB per email, Outlook 20 MB. We compress your video to 18 MB or 14 MB so it attaches without a cloud link.

  • Compressed on your device when possible
  • H.264 or H.265 MP4
  • Server fallback, deleted after 2 hours

Sending video by email

An attachment takes more room in an email than on your disk: mail encodes it as text, which adds about 37%. So a 25 MB limit fits a file of only about 18 MB, and a 20 MB file won’t go through even though it looks small enough.

We do that math for you. Pick your mail service above: 18 MB for Gmail and Yahoo Mail, 14 MB for Outlook. If you’re not sure which service the other person uses, pick Outlook, the smaller one.

Over the limit, Gmail and Outlook swap the attachment for a cloud link that the other person has to open separately. A compressed MP4 arrives as a real attachment that plays in any mail app.

What is the attachment limit in Gmail and Outlook?

Gmail and Yahoo Mail allow 25 MB per email; Outlook allows 20 MB for most accounts. The limit counts the encoded message, so the file itself has to be about a quarter smaller.

Why is the target smaller than the limit?

Email encodes attachments as text, which makes them about 37% bigger. A file just under the limit would be rejected once it’s in the email, so we aim for the size that still fits after encoding.

What if the recipient uses a different service?

The receiving server has its own limit too, and it’s often the smaller one. Outlook’s size fits almost everywhere, so use it when you don’t know.

How long a video can I email?

At 720p, about a minute and a half for Gmail and a little over a minute for Outlook. Longer videos are compressed at a lower resolution, down to 360p for 4 to 6 minutes depending on the service. For longer videos, a shared link works better than an attachment.
