Getting a video under 60 MB
60 MB is no single app’s limit, but you meet it on many upload forms, job and grant portals and support sites that want a real video without the bulk of the original. The original a phone records is usually many times bigger.
It leaves a short clip its full HD picture and lets a talk or a walk-through of several minutes fit at a lower resolution. If the form says 60 MB, use 60: every extra megabyte goes into the picture, and the result still lands safely under the cap.
We aim a little under 60 MB so the file is sure to fit, since most sites reject anything even slightly over. Sizes are in decimal megabytes (1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes), so the result also fits a limit that counts megabytes the binary way. Your video is encoded once at the bitrate that lands on 60 MB; when it’s compressed in your browser, the result is measured and done again if it came out too big.
How long a video fits in 60 MB
The longest video that keeps each resolution, for a typical 30 fps video with sound. At 60 fps, expect about half as long.
| Resolution | Longest video |
|---|---|
| 1080p | |
| 720p | |
| 480p | |
| 360p |
Longer than 18:30? Even 360p would look too rough, so the page asks for a bigger size. Trim the video first or choose a bigger size.
Where you’ll run into 60 MB
Applications and video pitches
Many job, grant and scholarship portals ask for a short video introduction and cap the upload around this size. A one- or two-minute pitch keeps its full HD picture at 60 MB, so you don’t have to record it again on lower settings.
Support tickets and bug reports
Many help desks take attachments of a few dozen megabytes. A screen recording that shows the problem from start to finish usually fits after compressing, and the person answering can watch it without a separate download link.
Sharing over mobile data
A 60 MB file is a fraction of what the phone recorded, so it uploads and downloads far faster on a weak connection and uses less of anyone’s data plan, while still looking sharp on a phone screen.

Questions
Can’t find your answer? Write to feedback@videocompressor.xyz.
Will the video be exactly 60 MB?
Just under it. We aim a few percent below 60 MB so it’s certain to fit, since sites and apps reject a file that is even slightly over.
What if my video is already under 60 MB?
Then it already fits, and the page tells you so. You can send it as it is, or still make it smaller with a preset.
Will my video look worse at 60 MB?
That depends on its length. A short video keeps its full resolution; a longer one is scaled down, to 720p or lower, so the picture stays clean instead of blocky. The table above shows where each step starts. The sound keeps its quality unless the size is very small for the length.
What if my video is too long for 60 MB?
Past 18:30 there aren’t enough bits for a watchable picture, even at 360p, and the page asks for a bigger size. Trim the video with our video cutter first, or choose a bigger size.
Is 60 MB small enough for Discord?
Only with full Nitro, which allows 500 MB. Nitro Basic stops at 50 MB and a free account at 20 MB. On the Discord page you can pick the size that matches your account instead.
Should I pick 50 MB or 60 MB?
Whatever the site’s limit says. The extra 10 MB is a fifth more data for the picture, so a video at 60 MB can stay at a higher resolution for longer. Going lower than you need only costs quality.
Can I compress a video to 60 MB on my phone?
Yes, open this page in your phone’s browser and pick the video. When the browser can handle it, it’s compressed right there; HDR videos, which most recent iPhones record, go to our server instead, and the page tells you which before you start.
Should I choose H.264 or H.265 for 60 MB?
H.265 keeps more detail in the same 60 MB, so a longer video can keep a higher resolution. Choose it when the people you send it to have newer devices; H.264 plays everywhere.
Is my video uploaded to compress it?
Not when your browser can handle it: then it’s compressed on your device. Otherwise it goes to our server over an encrypted connection and is deleted 2 hours after compressing.
