Compress video to 10 MB

The size is already set to 10 MB. Add your video and get an MP4 that comes in just under it.

Getting a video under 10 MB

Until Discord raised it to 20 MB in 2026, 10 MB was its free upload limit, so many people still look for it. It’s also a common cap for attachments on job applications, school portals and support tickets.

When a site says “max 10 MB”, this page gets you there in one go: the result comes in just under, so the upload works the first time. A 10 MB file also fits as an email attachment in Gmail, Yahoo Mail and Outlook, even though attachments grow by about a third inside an email.

We aim a little under 10 MB so the file is sure to fit, since most sites reject anything even slightly over. Sizes are in decimal megabytes (1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes), so the result also fits a limit that counts megabytes the binary way. Your video is encoded once at the bitrate that lands on 10 MB; when it’s compressed in your browser, the result is measured and done again if it came out too big.

How long a video fits in 10 MB

The longest video that keeps each resolution, for a typical 30 fps video with sound. At 60 fps, expect about half as long.

ResolutionLongest video
1080p
720p
480p
360p

Longer than 3:05? Even 360p would look too rough, so the page asks for a bigger size. Trim the video first or choose a bigger size.

Where you’ll run into 10 MB

  • GitHub issues and pull requests

On a free plan, GitHub takes videos up to 10 MB in issues, pull requests and comments. Record the bug, compress it here, and drag the MP4 into the comment box. Repositories on paid plans allow more.

  • Google Forms with a 10 MB limit

10 MB is one of the upload limits a Google Form’s owner can set. The form shows its limit next to the upload button; when it says 10 MB, this page lands the video just under it.

  • Email with room to spare

A 10 MB file fits as an attachment in Gmail, Yahoo Mail and Outlook. There’s even room left for a photo or a short document in the same email.

Questions

Can’t find your answer? Write to feedback@videocompressor.xyz.

Will the video be exactly 10 MB?

Just under it. We aim a few percent below 10 MB so it’s certain to fit, since sites and apps reject a file that is even slightly over.

What if my video is already under 10 MB?

Then it already fits, and the page tells you so. You can send it as it is, or still make it smaller with a preset.

Will my video look worse at 10 MB?

That depends on its length. A short video keeps its full resolution; a longer one is scaled down, to 720p or lower, so the picture stays clean instead of blocky. The table above shows where each step starts. The sound keeps its quality unless the size is very small for the length.

What if my video is too long for 10 MB?

Past 3:05 there aren’t enough bits for a watchable picture, even at 360p, and the page asks for a bigger size. Trim the video with our video cutter first, or choose a bigger size.

Is Discord’s free limit still 10 MB?

No, it’s 20 MB now. A 10 MB file still goes through, but the Discord page’s 19 MB keeps more of the picture.

Is 10 MB enough for a phone video?

For a short one. Phones record at a high bitrate, often 10 MB every 10 seconds or less, so a longer clip is scaled down to fit; the table above shows how long fits at each resolution.

Why does a 10 MB limit reject my 10 MB video?

Your computer may be rounding: Windows counts sizes in binary units, so a file it shows as 10 MB is about 10.5 million bytes, over a limit of 10,000,000. Ours comes in under 10 MB counted either way, so it passes whichever way the site measures.

Should I choose H.264 or H.265 for 10 MB?

H.265 keeps more detail in the same 10 MB, so a longer video can keep a higher resolution. Choose it when the people you send it to have newer devices; H.264 plays everywhere.

Is my video uploaded to compress it?

Not when your browser can handle it: then it’s compressed on your device. Otherwise it goes to our server over an encrypted connection and is deleted 2 hours after compressing.
