Discord rejects any file over your upload limit: 20 MB on a free account, 50 MB with Nitro Basic and 500 MB with Nitro. A minute of phone video can easily be 100 MB or more, so most clips need compressing before they fit.

What is Discord’s file size limit?
20 MB per file without Nitro, 50 MB with Nitro Basic and 500 MB with Nitro. Discord has changed these limits before; the date at the bottom of this page is when we last checked.
Why does my video still say it’s too large?
Check which plan you picked above: a Nitro-sized file won’t go through on a free account. If you typed your own size, keep it under the limit rather than exactly on it.
How long a video fits in 20 MB?
At 720p, about a minute and a half. Longer videos are compressed at a lower resolution, down to 360p for about 6 minutes. Beyond that there aren’t enough bits for a watchable picture, so trim the video first or send it with Nitro.
Will it play in the chat?
