Uploading video to Blackboard
In Blackboard Learn, the upload limit belongs to your school: its administrators set it, so it changes from one campus to the next. Several universities allow about 2.5 GB on the website, while uploads from the Blackboard app are reported to stop at 250 MB. When an upload fails, the number in the message is the one that applies to you.
We start at 240 MB, under the app’s reported limit. Your school or your instructor may set a lower one, so if the assignment or the error names a number, type it into the Target size box and we aim a little under it.
The night before a deadline is no time to learn video software. Open this page, drop the video in, and when your browser can handle it, it’s compressed on your own computer without being uploaded to us. The result is an H.264 MP4 that plays in Blackboard in any browser.

Limits last checked .
What is Blackboard’s file size limit?
There isn’t one for everyone: each school’s administrators choose it. Several universities allow about 2.5 GB on the website, and the Blackboard app is reported to allow 250 MB. A course or assignment can ask for less.
Why does my upload fail without saying why?
Usually the file is over the limit, or a very large upload stopped partway on a slow connection. A smaller file solves both: compress it here, then upload the MP4 instead of the original.
How much video fits in 240 MB?
About nine minutes in full HD (1080p), or twenty at 720p. A lecture-length recording fits too, at a lower resolution, so you don’t have to cut it.
Should I compress before uploading from my phone?
Yes, when the video is over 250 MB. Phone videos are big: a few minutes of 4K can be several times that. Compress it in your phone’s browser, save the MP4, and attach that in the app.
