Compress video on Android
Skip the app. Open this page in Chrome, pick a video from your gallery and choose how small it should be.
Compressing video on an Android phone
Android phones often record in 4K or at 60 frames per second, and a few minutes of that quickly adds up to hundreds of megabytes. Chat apps, email and upload forms all have size limits, so a smaller copy is often the only way to send it. It also frees up space: keep the compressed copy and you can delete the huge original.
Open this page in Chrome and tap the drop area; Android lets you pick from your gallery, your files or the camera. When your phone can handle the video, Chrome compresses it right there with the phone’s own video encoder. Otherwise it’s uploaded to our server and deleted 2 hours after compressing.
Firefox for Android can’t compress video inside a web page, so there every video goes to our server; Chrome is the better choice. HDR videos, which many Android phones can record, also go to our server, which converts them to standard colors that look right on any screen. The page tells you which one it will use and why before you start, and you can switch.
Why compress on your Android phone here
Nothing to install
No app, no permissions to grant, no account. Just this page in your browser, which you can add to your home screen for next time.
Share straight to an app
When your phone compressed the video, Share sends it directly to a chat, an email or any other app, without digging through your downloads.
The size your app accepts
Type a size in MB and the result comes out just under it, or use our WhatsApp, Discord and email pages, which know their limits.
Plays on any phone
You get an H.264 MP4 that every Android phone, iPhone and computer plays. H.265 is there for smaller files.

Questions

Which browser should I use?
Chrome. It can compress video right on your phone, using the video encoder built into the browser; keep it up to date. Firefox for Android can’t, so there every video is uploaded to our server instead.
Is my video uploaded to your server?
Not when your phone can compress it in the browser: then it stays on your phone. HDR videos, videos too big for your phone’s free storage and formats it can’t decode go to our server over an encrypted connection, and are deleted 2 hours after compressing. You can see and change which is used before you start.
Where is the compressed video saved?
A download goes to your phone’s Downloads folder, where your Files app finds it. If your phone compressed the video, Share can also send it straight to an app.
What size should I choose for WhatsApp?
WhatsApp plays videos up to 16 MB in the chat. Our WhatsApp page is set to 15 MB, a little under the limit, so the video arrives as a video and not as a file. For other apps, type their limit in MB.
Can I use other apps while it compresses?
Keep the page open and in front until it’s finished. Android can pause or close tabs in the background, which stops compressing on your phone, and an upload to our server has to finish first. The page keeps your screen on while your phone compresses.
Does it work on older or cheaper phones?
Usually, just more slowly. If your phone can’t encode the video, or runs out of free storage, the page uses our server instead. Closing other apps first leaves more memory for the browser.
How long a video can I compress on Android?
On your phone there’s no fixed limit, only its memory and free storage. Videos that go to our server can be up to 1 GB, 60 minutes and 4K, and you can compress 5 a day there.
Can I compress several videos at once?
Yes. Pick several in your gallery and they’re compressed one after another. A size in MB applies to each video.
